Treatment Options

Comprehensive Prosthetics and Orthotics offers a range of tailored treatment options for pediatric patients requiring partial foot prosthetics. Depending on the size of the residual foot and the patient's activity level, our experienced team will recommend the most suitable prosthetic solution. We pride ourselves on being the premier choice for pediatric prosthetic care, ensuring each child achieves their highest potential for mobility and independence. Pediatric partial foot prosthetics include:

Shoe Inserts

A custom shoe insert can be an effective solution for amputations limited to the toes or a small portion of the middle of the foot. This insert supports the remaining foot anatomy and can fill in portions of the missing foot, providing stability and comfort for the child.

Ankle Foot Orthoses

When the amputation is at the midfoot or higher, and the child desires to maintain an active lifestyle, a combination of a custom shoe insert and an ankle foot orthosis (AFO) is recommended. This combination helps to restore functional foot length during sustained activities, enhancing mobility and overall foot function.

Laminated Prosthesis

A traditional laminated prosthesis may be necessary for amputations approaching the rear foot, especially for children intending to return to high activity levels. This prosthesis features a rigid carbon foot plate laminated beneath a carbon fiber socket extending up the front of the leg. It effectively transfers forces created under the toes to the front of the lower leg, restoring the child's natural and dynamic gait.
