TLSO/LSO Orthotic Treatment Options

TLSO and LSO orthoses are integral components of long-term rehabilitative care. They provide stability, reduce pain, and facilitate the healing process for various spinal conditions. These orthoses restrict harmful movements, support weakened structures, and promote proper spine alignment during recovery. TLSO and LSO Orthotic treatment options include:

TLSO Orthotics

TLSO orthoses are designed to stabilize the thoracic, lumbar, and sacral regions of the spine, making them ideal for conditions requiring support across these areas. These orthoses are commonly prescribed for recovering from spinal surgeries or fractures or managing chronic conditions such as scoliosis or kyphosis. TLSO orthoses help prevent unwanted spinal movements, reduce pain, and improve posture during rehabilitation. At Comprehensive Prosthetics and Orthotics, we provide customized TLSO orthoses tailored to each patient's specific needs, ensuring comfort and effectiveness throughout their recovery. Types of TLSO Orthotic treatment options include:

  • Boston Brace: The Boston brace is the most commonly used TLSO brace for scoliosis treatment today. It is prefabricated and available in a variety of sizes, allowing the Orthotist to select a brace that aligns with the patient’s unique spinal curvature.
  • Wilmington Brace: The Wilmington brace is a fully customized scoliosis brace. Unlike the Boston brace, it is designed with specific pressure points tailored to the individual patient, and it does not feature open slots or relief areas, offering a more personalized fit.
  • Knight Taylor TLSO: The Knight Taylor TLSO differs from other TLSO braces in that it typically features rigid support only on the back, with a cloth-like material in the front to secure the back frame. Some variations may include additional chest support or pads. This brace is primarily used to stabilize spinal fractures or injuries.

LSO Orthoses

LSO orthoses specifically targets the lumbar and sacral regions of the spine, offering support and stabilization for individuals with lower back pain, lumbar disc herniation, or post-surgical recovery needs. These orthoses are designed to limit movements that could exacerbate pain or hinder the healing process, such as bending, twisting, and excessive movement of the lower spine. LSO orthoses are crucial in managing conditions such as spondylolisthesis, degenerative disc disease, and other lumbar spine ailments. At Comprehensive Prosthetics and Orthotics, our LSO orthoses are crafted to provide the necessary support while maintaining comfort, helping patients regain mobility, and improving their quality of life.LSO Orthotic treatment options include:

  • Rigid Back Brace: A rigid back brace provides essential support and immobilization for recovery from complex spinal surgeries, fractures, or conditions like scoliosis and degenerative disc disease. Made from form-fitting plastic, these braces restrict motion by up to 50%, reducing the risk of further injury and promoting safe healing.
  • Soft Lumbosacral Corset: A soft lumbosacral corset offers lower back support, particularly for pain, arthritis, or mild instability. It doesn’t fully immobilize the spine but encourages proper posture and reduces excessive motion, making it ideal for activities that stress the back and for post-surgery recovery.
