Idiopathic Scoliosis Treatment Options

At Comprehensive Prosthetics and Orthotics, our expert team collaborates with patients to develop personalized treatment plans tailored to their specific needs and condition severity. Treatment options for idiopathic scoliosis aim to prevent further curvature progression, alleviate pain, and improve spinal alignment. Depending on the individual's age, degree of curvature, and skeletal maturity, treatment may involve observation, bracing, or surgical intervention.

Standard Rigid Braces

Standard rigid braces are among idiopathic scoliosis's most common non-surgical treatment options. These braces are custom-made orthotic devices designed to hold the spine in a corrected position and prevent further curvature progression. By providing external support and pressure, rigid braces help to stabilize the spine and promote proper alignment.

Milwaukee Brace

The Milwaukee brace is a specific rigid brace used to treat idiopathic scoliosis, particularly in adolescents with thoracic or thoracolumbar curves. This full-torso brace extends from the neck to the pelvis. It includes metal bars and pads strategically positioned to apply corrective forces to the spine. The Milwaukee brace is often prescribed for patients with moderate to severe curvature who have not yet reached skeletal maturity.

Boston Brace

The Boston brace, or the TLSO (thoracolumbosacral orthosis), is another standard treatment option for idiopathic scoliosis. This custom-made brace is designed to fit snugly around the torso, providing support and corrective pressure to the spine. The Boston brace is typically prescribed for patients with mild to moderate curvature who are still growing.
