Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clot that forms in a deep vein, usually in the leg. Factors that increase the risk of developing DVT include prolonged periods of inactivity, such as sitting for long periods of time during travel, surgery, or injury, and certain medical conditions such as cancer and heart disease.
